Welcome To The Ibaha Tribal Council
Welcome To The Ibaha Tribal Council
The Ibaha Tribal Council’s constitution was established before any external recognition of similar principles in international frameworks. Our system of governance, land stewardship, and cultural preservation predates any acknowledgment in global policies.
However, we acknowledge that the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) and the American Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (ADRIP) contain principles that mirror our own. We place them here to show that these rights are recognized elsewhere, but our governance is for us—created by our people, for our people.
We are not federally or state recognized and do not seek such status.
We are not wards of the federal government or the state.
We continue our sovereignty on our own terms without external interference.
Right to Self-Determination – We define our own leadership, membership, and policies.
Land and Resource Rights – We maintain full sovereignty over our ancestral lands.
Cultural and Linguistic Rights – We actively preserve our language and traditions.
Traditional Governance Recognition – Our matrilineal leadership system is an enduring and legitimate form of government.
Protection from Displacement – We advocate for land reclamation and recognition of historical injustices.
Though these principles are found in international frameworks, our foundation remains distinct. Our governance is built on the traditions of our ancestors—not imposed by external authorities.
The Ibaha Tribal Council stands as an independent, self-governing body, dedicated to preserving the heritage, rights, and future of our people. Our constitution unites us under shared principles of sovereignty, justice, and cultural continuity.
We welcome those who seek to reconnect with their heritage and those who respect our governance. While others may see reflections of our rights in international agreements, our foundation remains firm—built for our people, by our people, and in accordance with our ancestral ways.
